12 Days of Christmas Crafting - Day 6 Gift Boxes

Have you ever spent time baking yummy goodies in the kitchen and then not find the right box, or better yet the right size box to put your home made goodness into. Then it ends up on a disposable plate covered in plastic wrap, with some kind of ribbon in hopes of making it look presentable. Well don't I have an awesome fix for you. What you will need:
Two sheets of coordinating card stock (in case your wondering it's Martha Stewart paper that I got at Michael's)
Ribbon
Scissors
Glue stick
Paper cutter/scoring pal or a bone folder.
First you will cut your card stock as follows. The card stock that you will use for the bottom of the box cut it to 7" x 7" and the piece you will use for the lid will be cut to 5 1/8" x 5 1/8".

Next you need to score your paper. I don't have a scoring pal so I simply used my paper cutter along with my bone folder. What this does is gives you indented lines that you will later use to fold the box. The bottom piece that is 7"x 7" needs to be scored 2" from the edge on all four sides. The lid piece that is 5 1/8" x 5 1/8" needs to be scored 1" from the edge on all four sides.
Next you need to cut both scored edges on opposites sides of the box. You will also need to repeat this step for the lid.

Next fold the sides up and glue the side flaps to each other. Once that is glued you will glue the last flap up to the pieces you just glued. Repeat for the other side as well as the lid.
As you can see from my choice of paper I picked reversible card stock and used one side for the bottom and the other side for the top. It gives your box some contrast. What I did for the bigger box is simply add one inch to my measurements when I cut the box but still scored them at the same distances. This simply gives you a bigger box. Last but not least. Stack your boxes and wrap some coordinating ribbon on it with a gift tag and voila it looks slaved over. Now lets be honest who doesn't like some homemade goodness?
This can be used for so many things, cookies, peanut butter balls, homemade soap really the possibilities are endless. These are so fun to make and they will be a hit everywhere you go.

  1. Love this! Thanks for posting it. You totally described me with the paper plates, plastic wrap and a bow. I end up doing that every year with my homemade candy to hand out to neighbors. Not making candy this year, but next time I do, I'll try this.
