Cocunuts Dresser Solution.

So my daughter "Coconuts" as we like to call her has had some serious dresser issues for quite some time. She's getting older and bigger and so are her clothes. The dresser however has stayed the same size. It's actually the dresser I used when I was a little girl. It's been a chore to keep her room clean and clothes put away when they just don't fit anywhere. Here is what her room looked like at any given moment.

Can you see my frustration. Her drawers are full and that is why there is a heap of clothes on her keepsake box. It's been driving me crazy for a while. So needless to say it was time to get her a new one. I wanted something white with a mirror on it. I wanted it long and not too tall or chunky. I had a picture of it in my mind. So a Three piece bedroom set for her at the best price I could find was $1100.00. There was no way I was going to spend this. So I hit Kijiji for a good month when I happened upon this 50 year old dresser.

I didn't want anything ornamental. I wanted clean lines and I saw the potential in this thing. I took it home just before Christmas and it was going to be my "project" to work on the week I was off for the Holiday's. So off I went to my local Building Supplies store for some paint and some new hardware and I was in business. My husband wanted to help but he was under strict orders that this was MY "Project" and he was to keep his paws off. Here is what it looks like now. See what i saw in this thing. I was super excited about how it turned out.

My intention was to have it in her room before I went back to work on January 2nd. But the melamine paint took way too long to dry because the basement was too damp. However the project did get finished and now she's got more than enough room in her drawers to fit all her clothes and I enjoy not seeing the mess. Here is what it looks like in her room.

So my next project is going to be to get her a matching Head Board and Foot Board. My co-worker gave me a 100 year old set that was sandblasted. I'm feeling guilty covering it with paint but am looking forward to how it will look in her room. Stay tuned and I'll post pictures of it when I get it done. Leave a message and let me know what you think.
